After two days in the saddle on a grumpy camel (photo right), I've learned a new appreciation for the traders who crossed the desert in Rajasthan, India.
I have to write this while standing up; there are certainly more comfortable animals to ride!
Fortunately, I didn't have to deal with water shortages and desert raiders who carry sharp swords. I did, however, get to enjoy meals made from scratch out in the Thar Desert and even slept directly under a myriad of stars. Amazing how much of the universe that you can see while lying on your back in the desert!
Camel safaris in Rajasthan are an unforgettable experience, one that I'm sure I will remember fondly once my backside heals.
My week-long stay in Jaisalmer, not too far from the border of Pakistan, concludes a month in India's desert state of Rajasthan. Luckily, I found the Hotel Tokyo Palace -- a pleasant boutique hotel near Jaisalmer Fort -- for recovering from the camel encounter.
