Bobby Fischer wants political asylum in Japan

American Bobby Fischer, the former world chess champion who violated the U.S.'s travel ban on Yugoslavia in 1992 to play in a match there against old Russian rival Boris Spassky, has asked Japan to grant him poitical asylum, according to the Reuters news service. After managing to avoid the grasp of U.S. law enforcement for over a decade, Fischer was arrested in Japan in July when he tried to leave the country on a passport that U.S. official declared invalid. He is currently in the process of being deported to the U.S....
