The Bottom Line

If you're looking for dinner with a view, Hai Tien Lo Cantonese Restaurant on the 37th floor of The Pan Pacific is probably the place you're after. The restaurant offers a tremendous panorama of the city's harbour, Marina Bay, and the skyline. But who cares about the view if the food's no good, right? That's not something you'll have to worry about here...

Guide Review - The Hai Tien Lo in Singapore

When I lived in Singapore, Hai Tien Lo would advertise special mid-afternoon buffets or set meals at a price that fit my budget. We watched for them...

There are very few places in the city to rival the culinary experience you find here. Chefs have come and gone over the two decades that the restaurant has been open but the establishment has managed to maintain a reputation for excellent dining.

The incredible array of standard menu items of the years has included such fare as Fried Shark's Fin with Crab Meat; Sauteed Kobe Beef with Fresh Chives and Korean Shemiji Mushrooms; Pan-fried New Zealand Lamb Steak with Mint Leaves, Black Pepper and Blue Ginger; Suckling Pig; and Roast Duck, and Sweet and Spicy Octopus.

You can also order "Buddha Jumps Over The Wall" - a specialty usually reserved for Chinese New Year. The dish is a soup made from dried abalone, dried scallops, shark's fin, fish, and sea cucumber.

Reservations are absolutely necessary. And unless things have changed recently, there is not a smoking section.

Plan on spending at least $65 or $70 Singapore per person. It is worth every penny...
